Learning Objective: To explore whether trade can be fair and environmentally friendly
Learning Outcome: Students are able to obtain, record and analyse data from sources including the internet and use their findings to provide evidence for scientific explanations
Resources Needed: Fairtrade Footprint Information and task sheet, Anapqui producer stories, access to the library and internet.
Starter: Ask half of the class to think of arguments for Fairtrade and the other half to think of arguments against Fairtrade. Feedback as a class and note them on the board. In pairs students then order the arguments.
Main Activity: Step by step instructions are included on the task sheet. This activity can be undertaken individually or in groups over 3-4 lessons.
Plenary: Challenge students to work in pairs to come up with a way of explaining the concepts of 'environmentally friendly' and 'Fairtrade' to an alien, newly arrived from outer spaceā¦
