Learning Outcome: Children have used < and > to order numbers.
Resources Needed: Fairtrade numbers worksheet, number signs for starter.
Starter: Prepare 3 or 4 appropriate pairs of numbers for the class and copies of the '<' and '>' symbols. Ask for 3 volunteers and distribute two numbers and a symbol. Ask the class to decide which number is greater than or less than the other and tell the volunteers where to stand in order to make the sentence true.
Main Activity: All of the sentences on the worksheet are true. Pupils use the '>' (greater than) and the '<' (less than) symbols to make the number sentences on the worksheet true.
Plenary: Are pupils surprised by any of the figures? Which ones? What do the statistics tell us about the importance of Fairtrade in the world?
