Introduce the class to the genre of rap music, mind mapping what they already know about it, including the history of rap. Perhaps listen to some rap music if appropriate. Discuss what makes a rap ‘good’ e.g. rhyme, short, to the point. Read Joyce, Alfred and Brian’s stories with the class. What difference has Fairtrade made to their communities? The class mind maps words and phrases which they associate with Fairtrade. Can they create rhymes out of any of them?
Challenge pupils to work in groups to create their own raps about fair trade from the point of view of a sugar producer in Malawi.
Pupils perform their Fairtrade raps to the rest of the class or to other classes as part of an assembly.
